To all my umpires. I am proud of you and the work you are doing this season... that being said, since a number of us are players as well as umpires I thought I would take a few minutes to explain something that was made painfully apparent to me recently. What is it?... I'm glad you asked. We as umpires need to be conscious of how we behave during play whether or not we are umping. And no... I am not angry at nor am I calling out anyone in particular. we all need to realize that the way that team sees us play and their reactions to that can dictate the responses we get as umpires from that team at a later date. Does that mean that we need to sit on the bench and be a quiet little mouse.... OF COURSE NOT ;D. I for one am the loudest most vocal guy on my team. (in the way that I cheer... A LOT ) But we need to check out attitudes at the door. If I get out on a play that i am frustrated at i may say "aww man" but i am not carrying that with me and stomping around and yelling at the ump who made a call in his best judgement. Our job is fun and hard. but we need to make sure that we do not give opposing teams incorrectly abrasive notions about us by the way we behave when we play. Now lets get out there GLORIFY GOD.... and PLAY BALL!
