Let's see if any of our umpires/coaches/players can make the right call on this situation. I will post the answer in a week or so.
The situation:
With runners on first and second and no outs, the third batter in the inning hits a high pop foul between home and first base with the first baseman losing sight of the ball because of the sun. The ball lands on foul ground without being touched and rolls into fair territory halfway between home and first base. The pitcher picks up the ball and throws to the second baseman covering first base, who touches the runner with the ball while the latter is off base. What is the ruling?
Possible answers:
A. Foul ball.
B. Dead ball and foul ball. The batter is the only out due to the infield fly rule.
C. Live ball and fair ball. The runner is the only out on the play.
D. Dead ball and fair ball. The batter and the runner who was tagged are out.

So my take on this would be to call an infield fly if fair. This way the play would be a dead ball play with the batter as the only out. The ball would end up being fair as it was not touched in foul territory and ended up being touched in fair territory. The runners, according to our league's rules, (Infield Fly Rule:Any pop-up to the infield with less than 2 outs, and runners are on 1st and 2nd, or bases are loaded, is an automatic out (dead ball situation); runners cannot tag up and advance nor can they be put out for being off base.), could not advance as it is a dead ball play and the person on first would not be out. So the only out would be the batter on the infield fly rule.

even though the official ASA ruling for some other leagues would be.../ D. Dead ball and fair ball. The batter and the runner who was tagged are out.
HOWEVER... our league rules most closely resemble the ASA combined E League. in this case the ruling is that the batter is out and the play is deemed dead....no other player can advance
commish. please correct me if i am mistaken
